We’ve all heard the phrase “fake it till you make it.” On the surface, it sounds like a confidence boost—just act like you’ve got it all together, and eventually, you will. But let’s be real. How often does that actually work? Imagine saying yes to catering an entire event when you can barely boil an egg. Or pretending to love someone just to meet society’s expectations—only to watch it all fall apart later. Why does fake it till you make it not work most of the time? Well, imagine attempting to put off fire with more fire. This is a concept that attempts to address a lack (of skill, confidence, authenticity, etc…) with a negative approach: Deception! What if I told you there is a better way? Lemme introduce you to a far superior concept: Faith it till you make it.
We are in a season of the supernatural move of God. But for us to experience this move, there are certain things we need to have in place, the first one being faith.
The Radical Power of Faith
Matthew 17:20-21
For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
One reason we do not experience the supernatural move of God is that we have 99% faith and 1% doubt. Unfortunately, 99% faith + 1% doubt = doubt.
Your faith may be small, but if it is free of doubt, it can accomplish wonders. This is the radical power of faith—faith it till you make it! It is the unshakable confidence that if God has spoken, it will surely come to pass. For God does not lie, and every word that proceeds from His mouth fulfills its purpose; it never returns void. Faith is not accidental, nor is it something you stumble into. Faith is cultivated with intention and conviction.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith comes by hearing- This produces an awareness, knowing that the thing you are trusting God for does exist.
The second hearing produces conviction; the deep-seated belief that this will happen.
Faith means knowing for sure that something will happen. You may not know how, and you may not be able to explain it to someone, but you know that it will happen.
This is the faith that Jesus expected His disciples to have. When they were scared of perishing in a storm, Jesus was calm, not because he didn’t care, but because He knew that was a small thing. A thing that faith can accomplish.
Faith is Here and Now
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The Bible records 37 miracles performed by Jesus. These miracles were not futuristic; they all happened there and then. This is the faith of the here and now, and it is what Jesus expects of us.
The problem with Christianity today is that we have sold more hope than faith. Hope believes something will happen in the future. Faith says now!
Selling Hope: The Story of the Man at the Pool of Bethesda
John 5:1-9
Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”
This is the story of a man who had been sold hope for so long, yet his life remained the same. When Jesus asked the man if he wanted to be made well, he started explaining his story. Probably in his head, he was saying, “Here comes another one.” When you have been in the same situation for so long, words don’t make sense. Someone telling you it shall be well means absolutely nothing to you. In fact, it might sound like disrespect. But thank God for Jesus, for He had something more for this man than mere, hopeful words:
8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.
Faith is here and now. Faith is believing that something will happen, never wavering. Faith is Elijah praying, over and over again, never wavering (after speaking in faith) until there is a change in the sky. Faith is believing like Abraham, that even in old age, my wife and I can still bring forth a child. But lemme show you what faith is not:
What Faith is Not
Absence of trouble
John 16:33 (NIV)
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Faith is believing even when things don’t seem to be changing. The first time Elijah prayed, the sky was still as clear as day. But Elijah did not give up. He went back, “bowing low to the ground and prayed, with his face between his knees.” (1 kings 18:41-44). Elijah prayed seven times until the situation changed.
The presence of trouble does not mean your faith has failed. You need to persist, never wavering in your faith until something happens.
Absence of prayer
Luke 22:31-32 (NIV)
And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.
Your faith needs to be followed by prayer. Elijah made a bold statement to Ahab, that rain was coming. But you know what he did after that? He climbed Mount Carmel and stayed in prayer until something changed. Jesus knew that Satan had asked to sift Peter. He knew that faith can fail when not accompanied by prayer for faith without action is dead. Thus, He prayed for Peter.
Downsizing Your Prayer
Have you ever prayed for something big—really big—only to second-guess yourself later? Maybe you asked God for a Benz, but then doubt crept in, and you went back to Him like, “You know what, Lord? A Corolla is just fine.” Or maybe you were believing God for marriage by the end of the year, but after stepping out of the prayer room, reality hit, and you adjusted your request: “God, if someone just smiles at me by December, I’ll take that as a sign.”
That’s not faith. That’s fear in disguise.
What faith is
Hebrews 11: 6 (NIV)
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Faith is believing that there is no prayer that is too audacious. That indeed there is indeed nothing that God cannot do.
Dearly beloved, it is now time to faith it till you make it. What step of faith is God calling you to take today?
